CLAAS: iF GOLD AWARD for the LEXION

CLAAS combine harvester: not only great engineering but award-winning design

Harsewinkel, July 2020. The new LEXION generation was awarded the iF GOLD AWARD 2020 at the beginning of 2020. The CLAAS designers Alain Blind and Thomas Wagner have now received the trophy. This had to be sent to Harsewinkel by post, as the pandemic meant that the festive award ceremony due to be held in in Berlin's Friedrichstadt Palace had to be cancelled.

The new LEXION appealed to the jury of the prestigious international design award in the "Product" category due to its optimum combination of ergonomics and design. The fully glazed cab, which gives the driver good all-round visibility, and the larger grain tank, which ensures higher productivity, were especially important factors in placing the LEXION at the top of the winners' podium. "The LEXION is the first CLAAS model with the company's unique Y design to receive such an honour," reports Alain Blind, who is responsible for the CLAAS design. "The 'Y' design is shared by all new self-propelled CLAAS machines and embodies their dynamism and power".

This was the first time the CLAAS Corporate Industrial Design Team had submitted an application for the award and promptly won not only the award but a gold prize. The iF GOLD AWARD is a special extra award of the competition, which is presented to products that the jury of renowned designers and entrepreneurs find particularly impressive. Only 75 out of around 1,500 winners were awarded gold. The award is therefore a symbol for outstanding design achievements and innovations.

The iF DESIGN AWARD is a world-renowned design prize and has been awarded annually to selected industrial products since 1953. More than 7,000 entries from over 50 countries were submitted this year.
